About The Position

Under minimal supervision, the Recreation Aide/ Pool Cashier is primarily responsible for collecting admission fees at the swimming pool facility. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

Minimum age for consideration is 16 years of age.
Prior customer service and/or cashier experience required.
Must be able to work in an indoor and outdoor environment for duration of shift
Must be able to physically perform all job requirements which include: squatting, crouching, reaching, bending, twisting at the waist, sitting, standing
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds assisted
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Must be able to read, write and comprehend both written and oral communications, as well as respond in written and oral communication
Basic math skills to accurately make change
City policies and procedures
Various City Ordinances affecting use of the Lasker Pool
Other applicable policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety with public recreation activities
Promote a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior
Monitor guests for violations of rules and safety standards
Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate effectively with the public, using tact and professionalism
Act quickly and calmly in emergency situations
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public
Interact with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

Calculates admissions fees, receives monies from patrons and provides change and counts patrons for attendance information.
Communicate pool rules and policies in a professional and courteous manner to pool participants.
Count money in drawers at the end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and all monies are accounted for.
Respond immediately and effectively to emergency situations following established procedures.
Report any safety, customer service, maintenance, and pool chemistry issues in a timely manner to management.
Promote good public relations through friendly, helpful, and accurate communication with pool guests.
Accurately complete daily reports and any other required forms.
Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Handle large volumes of guests through the gate while maintaining a high level of customer service and cash handling accuracy.
Must be able to work under pressure and with difficult or challenging guests.
Resolve guest concerns when possible and refer escalated issues to the on-duty manager as necessary
Work effectively with other employees and pool guests.
Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City Staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; and performs other duties as required or assigned.
Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services in the event of an emergency.
