About The Position

The White Deer Park Nature Center is seeking a friendly, motivated Recreation Activities Specialist to plan, implement, and supervise nature camps, environmental education programs, and activities for all ages.

Requirements

  • have a high school diploma (or equivalent); be at least 18 years of age
  • have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
  • be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and Word)
  • be available some weekday mornings and afternoons, as well as the occasional evening and weekend
  • have a background in environmental education and/or recreation program development and marketing
  • be extremely organized and able to multi-task; be able to complete tasks independently
  • be able to conduct surveys: development, input, analysis, and report
  • be able to evaluate evidence-based programs and report on conclusions from obtained data

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference will be given to applicants with education or experience in the environmental education field.
  • Strong preference will be given to applicants who have or are working toward their NC Environmental Education Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Helps lead and expand center’s educational program offerings to include research, planning, implementation and evaluation of natural history and environmental education programs for all ages.
  • Assists with planning, coordinating, and implementation of educational/nature camps for preschool and school-aged students.
  • Maintains educational equipment and supplies in an organized manner.
  • Assists in outreach efforts to publicize center and programs and attract new customers.
  • Works with Parks and Nature and Marketing teams to design promotional materials and advertise programs.
  • Researches, develops and produces educational materials for temporary exhibits and park displays.
  • Performs natural resource management tasks such as gardening, trail maintenance, and invasive species control. Leads volunteers in these efforts.
  • Assists departmental staff with special town and departmental events.
  • Assures participant safety and security; calls for medical or law enforcement support when needed; answers questions about events and addresses concerns; assists with building maintenance and room set-up.
