About The Position

The Recovery Support Specialist supports the program by ensuring that quality direct care services are provided to the clients. The Recovery Support Specialist reports to the Program Director for regular supervision and assignments. Location: Victory House, in Boston’s South End, provides residential treatment programs for 24 men with substance use disorder. The program is three-to-nine months long and helps support the residents with co-occurring conditions, such as mental health and chronic health conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
  • Ability to engage with clients in an instructive, directive, and compassionate manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex and drug cultures, age groups, religion, country of origin, disability and economic status.
  • Must be CPR certified (may be obtained upon hire).
  • Completed TB screening (may be obtained upon hire).
  • Three work related professional references; at least 2 from manager or supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the field of addiction or mental health.
  • Knowledge of the addiction recovery process or willingness to acquire it within the first six months of employment.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act in accordance with Victory Programs, Inc.’s Standards of Excellence & Philosophy of Care at all times including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality.
  • Provide quality, empathetic customer service to the clients in the program.
  • Ensure that when clients take medication, all policies and procedures are followed for assisting and monitoring the clients’ self-administration of medication.
  • Responsible for medication documentation, including: counting controlled medication, documenting incoming medication and medication removal, signing off on medication as it is taken by the clients.
  • Provide milieu coverage, including: maintaining and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu, empowering clients to act in accordance with guidelines in the program; conduct rounds; answer phones and front door; and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures related to maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment are followed.
  • Input client/program data in Electronic Health Records.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate client groups and complete required group facilitation documentation.
  • Provide referrals as needed.
