The Certified Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) plays a crucial role in supporting individuals on their journey to recovery by offering peer-based, empathetic guidance rooted in personal experience. This role exemplifies that recovery is both attainable and sustainable, serving as a living example of success. This position collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to address the diverse treatment and recovery needs of both youth and adults, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
Registered with VA Board of Counseling and maintains registration throughout employment
Must be able to perform Safe Clinch restraint techniques
Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Card for the State of Virginia (BHS/RSS positions)
The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance
Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (VA DBHDS) background check
Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) Office of Background Investigations - Central Registry Search

Nice To Haves

B ehavioral H ealth/Substance Use Treatment or GMH Recovery experience.
Completion of specialized peer certifications (WHAM, ASIST, e tc. )
Knowledge of e vidence-based /person-centered skillsets , such as Motivational Interviewing , Trauma Informed Care , Verbal De-escalation, Harm Reduction , and Person-centered language.

Responsibilities

Actively facilitate or co-facilitate group and individual sessions, providing relatable insights and fostering a sense of community.
Advocate for individuals throughout the treatment process, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
Share personal recovery experiences to inspire and motivate individuals, demonstrating that mental health recovery is achievable.
Works to lessen the instance of seclusion (if applicable) and restraint by building therapeutic alliance and exercising trauma informed care.
Demonstrates knowledge of community resources to help meet individual’s unique recovery needs.
Implements knowledge of multiple paths of recovery and promotes them equally.
Works cohesively with Multidiscipline teams through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Encourages and supports from a place of experience and understanding and willing to use appropriate self-disclosure.
Complete all required training, attend monthly meetings, and maintain required competencies.
Provide daily programming/groups.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
