About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the program director, the Recovery Support Specialist will provide peer support to youth and young adults in mental health recovery. This position will work directly with participants to offer guidance, encouragement, and support as they navigate their mental health journey. Recovery Support Specialists will also facilitate group activities, wellness sessions, and collaborate with the rest of the program team to ensure participants receive comprehensive support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Lived experience in mental health recovery and/or substance use recovery, with the ability to share personal recovery stories in a professional setting.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in peer support or a similar role, preferably with youth.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the state of Illinois
  • Attend initial and ongoing required training (provided on site)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and experience with diverse populations
  • Strongly self-motivated
  • Strong communication skills
  • Teaching skills, non-judgmental personality, and empathic listening skills
  • Ability and knowledge of basic computer programs for service documentation and report writing

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (or equivalent) preferred or willingness to obtain certification within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the youth with developing positive social skills with other children and adults
  • Assist the youth with building positive and healthy relationships
  • Provide the youth with positive reinforcement to build confidence
  • Provide services face to face, via phone, office, home, or community setting
  • Improve the youth’s connection and engagement within their community
  • Educate, model, and motivate the youth to increase their involvement with others in their community
  • Focus on a strengths-based approach
  • Assist the youth in self-advocacy
  • Identify and provide information about the child’s needs and strengths
  • Identification and building of natural supports
  • Facilitate groups and other programs designed to support and educate the youth
  • Responsible for the timely submission of Medicaid mental health billing
  • Participates in weekly team meeting
  • Completes daily paperwork and data collection notes in a detailed, accurate, consistent and timely manner
  • Ensures that all documentation is accurate and upholds Trinity Services’ mission, values, and operational needs
  • Writes session notes accurately, and other requested written assignments related to the clients
  • Perform other duties as assigned
