About The Position

The Recovery Support Registered Nurse (RN) exists to provide and coordinate patient‑centered nursing care that promotes positive health outcomes and supports substance use disorder treatment and recovery. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the RN advances safe, effective, and compassionate care throughout the recovery process.

Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted RN license required; Alaska RN licensure within one (1) year of hire. BSN preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS/PALS preferred.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and regulatory‑compliant documentation.
  • Ability to obtain National Provider Identification (NPI) and Qualified Addictions designation within one (1) year of hire.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams, using culturally responsive and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Trauma‑Informed Care, Historical Trauma impacting Alaska Native populations, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
  • Ability to support quality monitoring, reporting, and performance improvement activities.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and provide care to a diverse patient population in a rural or resource‑limited setting.
  • Knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and ability to deliver individualized, age-appropriate care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care in a behavioral health/residential treatment setting.
  • Conduct admission screenings and ongoing nursing assessments; develop and update individualized, trauma‑informed plans of care.
  • Administer and monitor prescribed medications safely, including evaluating and documenting readiness for self‑administration when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary treatment team, including medical providers, psychiatry, pharmacy, and ancillary services.
  • Communicate medication changes, test results, and updates to the plan of care to the treatment team.
  • Provide patient and staff education related to medical conditions, medications, and treatment participation.
  • Initiate and coordinate discharge planning to support safe transitions of care.
  • Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and quality monitoring standards.
  • Advocate for patient rights while maintaining professional accountability and collaborative working relationships.
