About The Position

Cenikor is seeking a Recovery Support Peer Specialist in Deer Park, TX. This role is centered around providing support to individuals in recovery, facilitating group sessions, and assisting participants in their recovery journey. The position emphasizes the importance of community, personal strengths, and self-advocacy. The Recovery Support Peer Specialist will work full-time from Tuesday to Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and will be involved in various essential functions aimed at helping individuals identify their needs, build relationships, and connect with community resources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be certified Recovery Support Specialist (RSS).
  • Minimum one year related experience working in a group with individuals in recovery.
  • Minimum one year lived substance use experience required.
  • Experience in prevention/substance abuse field preferred.
  • Excellent public speaking and customer service skills.
  • Effective communication and networking skills.
  • Knowledge of local resources (medical, housing, employment).
  • Ability to utilize mental/verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required.

  • Experience in the prevention/substance abuse field.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate groups where participants help each other face challenges such as stigmatization and discrimination.
  • Assist participants in finding community opportunities and resources that match their interests.
  • Conduct individual interviews to identify participants' needs and goals.
  • Write notes describing patient encounters and group experiences.
  • Serve as a role model sharing personal strengths and the idea of hope for recovery.
  • Provide recovery check-ups for individuals transitioning into the community.
  • Support individuals in developing comprehensive Recovery Wellness plans.
  • Help individuals identify and strengthen relationships with recovery allies.
  • Assist individuals in identifying personal obstacles to recovery.
  • Participate in orientation, training, staff meetings, and supervision services.
  • Connect participants to relevant community resources.
  • Strengthen existing community connections and build new ones.
  • Assist participants in identifying their interests, skills, and life goals.
  • Work closely with management to uphold Cenikor's core principles.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
