About The Position

Bay Cove Human Services’ mission is to partner with people to overcome challenges and realize personal potential. Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts. Schedule: Thursday 1pm-5pm, Friday 12pm-8pm, Saturday 12pm-8pm Job Summary: Working within a trauma-informed and person-centered framework, the Recovery Coach provides peer-based support, advocacy, and linkage to community resources that promote sustained recovery. The Recovery Coach contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by partnering with individuals to build recovery capital - the personal, social, and community resources that support sustained recovery and wellness. This is a non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder, with at least two years of continuous recovery required.
  • Completion of CCAR Recovery Coach Academy and Ethics training, or equivalent peer recovery training approved by the MA Board of Substance Abuse Counselor Certification prior to hire.
  • Certification as Certified Addiction Recovery Coach required within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of recovery principles, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
  • Understanding and respect for the many paths to recovery, including harm reduction, medication-assisted recovery, and mutual aid, and a commitment to promoting autonomy and choice for each individual.
  • Familiarity with community resources, local recovery communities, and housing networks.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, data entry).
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply, pay differential offered for candidates with fluency in certain essential languages - Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of training as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS), or willingness to get cross-trained preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals in identifying and pursuing personal recovery, housing, employment, and wellness goals.
  • Encourage individuals to identify and build upon their strengths, resilience, and existing supports.
  • Provide individualized peer recovery coaching to empower individuals to build recovery capital; including health, purpose, community connections, and stable housing.
  • Support individuals to navigate housing, healthcare, and social service systems.
  • Coach individuals to self-advocate effectively so they can ensure their rights are respected and their needs are met.
  • Facilitate group sessions or workshops related to recovery and life skills.
  • Build connections to community resources that enhance individuals’ social and recovery networks (e.g., mutual aid groups, employment programs, educational opportunities).
  • Model and promote wellness, recovery-oriented values, harm reduction practices, and trauma informed care principles.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure services provided are individualized and holistic.
  • Maintain accurate, timely notes to document service provision and assist with data collection for quality assurance and program evaluation.
  • Complete other related job duties as assigned.
