Recovery Coach (Peer Support Specialist) Schedule: this is a PRN role that doesn't have a set number of hours it will work a week. It will most likely pick up weekend shifts. How you’ll contribute A Recovery Coach who excels in this role with engage with clients in pre-recovery, during active inpatient or outpatient treatment and stepping through the continuum of care to enhance stability, durability, and quality of the recovery process. This includes engaging in face-to-face interactions regularly with meaningful conversations drawing on their own recovery experiences, and telephone and face-to-face interactions with families and other community supports. They serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, case manager, and motivator to recovering individuals and their families to promote long-term wellness.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have experience working with individuals with psychiatric/chemical dependency diagnoses.
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years in recovery from a substance use and/or mental health disorder
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • Peer Support Specialist Certification must be completed and obtained within one year from date of hire as Recovery Coach.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with de-escalation when needed.
  • Employs appropriate crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as required and according to policy and procedure.
  • Completes 15-minute checks, monitors for contraband, evaluates for change in condition, and provides line of sight or one on one care as directed.
  • Interfaces with patients, families, community resources, and treatment team members and performs case management duties to link to care and completes discharge planning documentation.
  • Identifies and engages with patients/families during program to identify barriers and encourage continued involvement throughout full continuum of care.
  • Accompanies patients to off-unit activities, i.e., meals, outside breaks, off-unit visits, etc.
  • Reports medical or psychiatric changes to the treatment team.
  • Provides pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient response to treatment interventions that assists in the development and revision of the treatment plan.
  • Maintains documentation on all patients enrolled in program and charts all communication with and about patient care in patient chart, per policy.
  • Complies with the established policy and procedure requiring a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
  • Encourages or assists patients to engage in treatment programming,
  • Facilitates or co-facilitates psychoeducational and peer support groups effectively, using established guidelines and/or prepared and approved information.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the program and protocol (policy and procedures) guidelines.
  • Aids in orienting and precepting new staff members to their position.
  • Trains staff on peer support specialist model as it applies to the Recovery Coach role at facility.
  • Complies with hospital policy, OSHA, and CDC guidelines regarding the collection of various specimens.
  • Employs principles of communication, interviewing techniques, problem-solving and crisis intervention when performing psychotherapeutic interventions based on plan of care.
