About The Position

South Carolina Recovering Professional Program (RPP) is committed to protecting the public's safety through the early identification of impaired health professionals who need assistance and the return to safe practice through appropriate referral and effective monitoring, rehabilitation, and recovery. SCRPP is a confidential referral and monitoring program designed for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and other licensed health professionals in South Carolina with alcohol or substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, job related burnout, boundary issues, or any other mental related condition or disorder which has the potential to interfere with or impede the ability to safely and effectively treat patients. A Recovery Specialist II at South Carolina Recovering Professionals Program (SCRPP) uses clinical expertise, critical thinking skills, and advanced case management to licensed healthcare professionals referred to SCRPP for substance use and/or mental health disorders. The Recovery Specialist II assists the participant in navigating the intake, treatment, and monitoring services, while also serving as a primary liaison between the participant and their respective board(s) and/or referral source. This position is an advanced-level case management role that requires exceptional organization, communication (both verbal and written), time-management and critical thinking skills, in addition to clinical skills in substance use disorders and mental health.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in the human services field and 3 years of clinical experience in the substance use disorder, addictions, and/or mental health field required OR
Master’s degree in the human services field and 1 year of clinical experience in the substance use disorder, addictions, and/or mental health fieldrequired
Certified as an Alcohol Drug Counselor through the Addictions Professionals of South Carolina (APSC), or able to complete the certification process within the requiredtimeframe required.

Nice To Haves

Advanced case management experience including technical writing, formal presentation and advocacy for patients, and/or experience coordinating care with referral sources highly preferred.
Licensed in the state of South Carolina in the human services field (LPC, LMSW, LAC, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides advanced case management to impaired or potentially impaired licensed healthcare professionals to ensure effective referral, treatment, and support in the state of South Carolina.
Maintains a caseload of ~60 participants.
Prioritize various running tasks daily (e.g. missed check ins, missed tests, positive tests, vacation requests, treatment updates, quality assurance reports, etc.) to ensure all deadlines met for time sensitive documents, to include Board reports, reports to employers, schools, other monitoring programs, and attorneys as needed are completed.
Ability to input gathered information in the electronic case management system, coordinate initial toxicology testing, and complete referral information foran initialevaluation.
Determineand implementappropriate deadlinedates verbally and in writing associated with various steps of intake process and monitoring. Must be able toarticulate topotential participants reasoning for toxicology deadlines.
Complete routine updates via detailed documentation and verbal communication to referral sources and respective Boards on a participant’s compliance and progress with monitoring and treatment requirements.
Complete quality assurance updates, as indicated, and internal review updates regularly or as needed. Mandatory attendance of QA and internal review meetings for all assigned participants, and outcome evaluation processes.
Present information in personutilizingexceptional verbal skills and professionalism during healthcare related licensee board hearings and association meetings that relate toparticipant’sprogress and compliance/noncompliance with treatment.
Ability to complete a brief exit interview on all successful discharged participants after one (1) to five (5) years of monitoring.
Abilityto effectively conduct intake assessment on all incoming licensees referred for intake, to include interpretation of data and clinical documentation, andutilizeclinical competency todetermineindividualized toxicology and evaluation options.
Interpret reports from referral sources and participants into clinicallyappropriate languagefor staffing and referral purposes.
Ability tomaintainprofessional boundaries and verbalize professionally to aparticipantevaluation results, toxicology results, and request to voluntarily refrain from practice, whenindicated.
Document and present all intake information gathered through the first phase of intake processutilizingappropriate clinicalterminology during bi-weekly staff meetings with SCRPP team members ina timelyfashion.
Participates instaffing ofprogram participants to ensureappropriate evaluation/treatmentplacement, level of intensity of care areappropriate tothe participants’ needs,monitorprogress, participation in support groups, toxicology testing, and communicate professionally with board staff and referral sources.
Monitorsproviderservices to ensure they provide treatment consistent with the MOA and intent of SCRPP. Participate in provider presentations and may have the opportunity to visit providers to promote collaborative relationships and ensure quality of care.
Collaborates with agencies involved in the monitoring and provision of services for recovering professionals (counselors, psychiatrists,out of statemonitors).
Attends trainings related to treatment and case management tomaintainknowledge of current developments in the field of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) treatmentin order toutilizeappropriate skills.
Attendsall required meetings and training sessions.
Other duties as assigned.
