About The Position

Exercises supervision and administrative responsibility for the Records Office. Provides guidance to other staff members on CORI regulations and restrictions. Performs related work and duties as required.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the criminal justice system, houses of correction, jails, courts, probation, parole, et c ..
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts criminal statutes and case law pertaining to sentencing.
  • Experience and knowledge in supervising assigned staff in their daily activities.
  • Experience and knowledge of daily activities of the Records Office.
  • Ability to assist in the management and supervision of a division dealing with records issues as well as coordinating and completing daily office tasks.
  • Understand the role of a Records Office in a county jail and house of correction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with computers and statistical analysis.
  • Two to three years experience in Criminal Justice or Bachelor of Arts\Science in Criminal Justice.
  • Ability to properly supervise assigned personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and monitors Inmate Management System Database as it pertains to itm1ates' sentencing history and other statistical population data
  • Responsible for all administrative duties involved with the supervision of division employees.
  • Responsible for all duties pertaining to the proper maintenance of inmate records.These involve but are not limited to: a. sentence computation for all commitments; b. determining the discharge dates for all inmates; c. posting all jail credit submissions; d. posting and monitoring all earned good time; e. tracking all outstanding warrants; f. posting and tracking all court trips; g . interacting with other criminal justice agencies; h. supplying reports as requested; i. tracking the CORI records; j. monitoring compliance with the sex offender registry information; k. and the collection of DNA with CODIS. I. responsible for ensuring that all division staff are trained appropriately.
  • Serves as a Department liaison with the Criminal System History Board.
  • Acts as keeper of inmate records. Responds to court summons and public requests for information.
  • Coordinates background checks on volunteers, interns and contractors.
  • Flexibility and ability to learn and perform new duties and skills as assigned.
  • Such other duties and assignments as the Sheriff may assign from time to time.
