The Records Specialist is responsible for managing, processing, and fulfilling requests for patient records in accordance with federal and state laws - including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 - as well as internal privacy and compliance policies. This role ensures accurate, timely, and secure handling of protected health information (PHI) for external requestors such as hospitals, legal offices, payers, and government agencies. The Records Specialist plays a key role in maintaining trust, confidentiality, and operational efficiency within the behavioral health organization. This position is part-time (20 hours per week). Remote to Columbus, Ohio or Indianapolis, Indiana.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have at least 2 years experience in medical records
  • High school or equivalent.
  • Experience handling confidential or sensitive information, preferably with medical records or health information management.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, behavioral health, or HIPAA-regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Rule and, if applicable, 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • EHR certification preferred.
