The Record Specialist is responsible for retrieving, scanning, and transporting of hospital patient information. Under general supervision, performs a variety of functions including, but not limited to, answering inquiries, completing release of information, resolving problems and interacting with patients, physician offices, and outside agencies to provide CD's, retrieve old records, and monitor fax folders. The Record Specialist will ensure that all inpatient, outpatient, and in the Emergency Department records are received, prepped, scanned and indexed into the patient's electronic record. They are responsible for scan/index all paper documents into the electronic chart within the appropriate turn-around timeframe. The Record Specialist is also responsible for requesting records as needed for patients being seen in the hospital, as well as maintaining the Death Log and performing functions as required at the front desk. The Record Specialist will represent the hospital in a professional manner using excellent customer service practices in performing all duties. Because the Health Information Management Department is a 24/7 department, this position also requires working a rotation of weekends and holidays.
