About The Position

The Recess Monitor will monitor students on school grounds enforcing rules, providing for a safe environment and reporting behavior incidents to Lodge Leaders or teacher; may assist with instructional materials; other duties may be assigned. ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Monitors students Documents and reports incidents Prepares materials using copy machine, laminator, etc. Engages with students in a school environment Maintains and/or assists with students discipline including maintenance of positive students behavior Assists with the supervision of students during building activities, such as assemblies and special programs Assists students with building emergency drills May attend staff meetings and building events, such as open house May attend related professional development activities and workshops Maintains effective communication with classroom teachers and administrators Maintain professional conduct when working with students, staff and parents Maintains regular attendance and punctuality Performs other duties as assigned This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Requirements

  • Be at least eighteen years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED)
  • Works with and relate to Native American children and serve as positive role model
  • Take initiative and work independently
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all levels
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of confidentiality and the ability to maintain it
  • Remain flexible to changes in assignment or situation
  • Organize activities, collect data, set priorities, and follow instructions
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community members
  • Demonstrate understanding of and experience with cultural competence
  • Use basic job-related equipment
  • Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures
