About The Position

The Student Affairs Assistant greets all visitors in person at the Logansport Campus information desk and enters them into the queuing system to be seen by a Student Services Professional (SSP). This position also handles phone calls and performs other general clerical duties. FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides answering service to incoming telephone calls in the administrative suite. Direct all inquiries to the appropriate departments and people. Provides information to all visitors and assists in locating appropriate people and departments when needed. Completes reports, mailings, and other clerical assignments. Provide general information about admissions, registration, financial aid, orientation, assessment, and business support. Assist with all special projects and mailings, as well as provide filing, data entry, telephone, and clerical assistance for the various departments in Student Affairs. Read and understand forms for all departments and provide proper forms to customers. Verify completeness of forms and accompanying materials. Maintain an appropriate inventory of necessary student materials. Compile information packets requested by the Admissions office. Greet visitors and students, clarify and answer general questions, and/or enter students into the queuing system to be seen by an SSP. Direct students to the correct location or refer to the Student Services Professional. Distribute general college and Enrollment Center information (e.g., catalogs/program brochures/course descriptions and forms) to students. Function effectively in a team environment. Maintain working knowledge of emergency/safety procedures as provided by the supervisor. Be knowledgeable of the locations of the electronic and hard copies of procedures when applicable to deliver information as needed to customers. Conduct all activities within the established guidelines of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Work Hours: Monday through Friday 1-5 pm Salary: $15hr This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned

Requirements

  • Familiarity with general office and telephone equipment and procedures required.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
  • Keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to operate word processing/computer equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to operate a copier and other office-related equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to provide Tier 1 level student support using various software applications (queuing, student, and financial aid).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Pleasant disposition, good attitude, and ability to get along with others.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ability to work in a team environment successfully.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Formal secretarial/clerical training with experience operating a multi-line phone system is preferred.
