About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the designated administrator, to serve as a receptionist for visitors to the school building and supporting the broad array of services provided to students, parents, staff, and community members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer system and word processing software.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality as required and appropriate.
  • Successfully completes required criminal history check and has proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Ability to describe problems and work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers, software applications, and student database.
  • Ability to problem solve job-related issues.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to process paperwork accurately according to standardized procedures.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of office management procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Greets all visitors to the school building using the established security procedures
  • Assists other clerical staff as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of school.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate student documents, files and records.
  • Answers telephone calls, and provides information and assistance to callers.
  • Assists with the distribution of incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, parents and employees, providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.
  • Make announcements and operate the school intercom systems as necessary.
  • Adhere to New Jersey School Law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the administrator, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
  • Protects confidentiality of records and information about students and staff.
  • Displays ethical and professional behavior in working with everyone who communicates or is associated with the office.
  • Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, accepting responsibility, and an effective work ethic.
  • Demonstrates initiative, independence and decision making appropriate to the performance task of this position.
  • Makes efficient use of time and resources available.
  • Provides well-organized, accurate work.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks, as appropriate, to meet the needs of the job.
  • Participates in staff development opportunities in accordance with district guidelines and resources to enhance job-related skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to assist and work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Displays tact and courtesy when dealing with students, staff, residents, and others in person and by telephone in the performance of this position.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
