About The Position

The SAN MATEO COUNTY FAIR is seeking Receptionists to work in a fun and friendly environment during the San Mateo County Fair. We have two seasonal positions available as follows: April 27 through June 10, with the potential for some additional hours during the month of June. May 18 through June 9 Must have an open schedule during this time and be available to work on the weekends of June 6-7 and June 13-14. Hours are typically 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and may vary based on business needs. Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour Job Summary Under the direction of the CAO, serves as a receptionist providing excellent customer service to our guests and administrative support to our staff. This is a seasonal position for the 2026 San Mateo County Fair.

Requirements

  • Punctuality is a must as this is time sensitive position.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a strong ability to interact with all in a professional, helpful, courteous, and tactful manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Excellent spelling, grammar, and written English skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task including accomplishing administrative tasks while answering phones and greeting the public.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to be flexible and work with the changing workload, and sudden shifts in priorities without losing focus on the “big picture”.
  • Requires being responsible, reliable, and dependable to fulfill job obligations.
  • Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position. High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Answer extremely busy telephones and respond to routine inquiries regarding the San Mateo County Fair and Event Center events.
  • Route and screen calls to appropriate staff members and take complete messages.
  • Greet and assist all walk-in visitors and clients, and notify the appropriate staff member of their presence.
  • Monitor and operate the base radio to communicate with staff members.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical tasks for several departments.
  • Take telephone and walk-in orders for fair ticket sales in advance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
