About The Position

The Dental Receptionist (RECPD), reporting to the Dental Clinic Manager, is responsible for the scheduling and check-in duties of patients receiving dental services within SNAHC. This includes a collection of necessary registration data on new patients as well as updating and making corrections to registration data on established patients. As part of the registration process, the Dental Receptionist will determine eligibility for public insurance programs and obtain verification of private insurance. The position also includes the responsibility of communicating to patients about upcoming dental appointments and any outstanding balances that are due and that require payment before the next appointment. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company's sole discretion and the wage range for this role considers a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At SNAHC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $21-$23.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience working in a front office setting/ or similar role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in all services provided by the dental department as well as dental insurance processing.
  • Experience with electronic health records software and database systems preferably NextGen
  • Knowledge of dental terminology.
  • Knowledge dental procedures with the ability to explain in detail

Responsibilities

  • Greets and welcomes patients and guests as soon as they arrive at the office
  • Demonstrated a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Makes appointments and verifies insurance and/or payment method for the appropriate department.
  • Takes and delivers messages as needed.
  • Completes dental scheduling using approved templates and guidelines.
  • Conducts patient screenings by assessing pain levels for emergency appointments as required by contracted insurances.
  • Conducts reminder calls and screens insurance eligibility for the same-day and/or walk-in appointments.
  • Appropriately notifies patients of any eligibility conflicts.
  • Utilizes software features to maximize patient access and ensures all patients are checked in, checked out, or canceled promptly.
  • Completes the screening and collection of current billing coverage information daily.
  • Reconciles daily cash drawer and patient payments for Patient Financial Services management.
  • Ensures all information entered into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is accurate and complete. This includes reviewing, scanning, and verifying any paper documents to make sure that all forms are completed, identified, signed, and corrected.
  • Collects and records patient payments for services rendered, preparing deposit sheets and POS transaction reports daily, reconciling the daily cash drawer and patient payments for dental management.
  • Verifies patients have updated their patient consents and demographic information within the last 12 months and alerts the appointment appropriately for an update to occur at the clinical front desk
  • Assist patients with health insurance information, verifying eligibility such as Medi-Cal, Medicare, and Geographic Managed Care (GMC) programs, private insurance, and determines appropriate copayment(s).
  • Refers to and uses Federal Poverty Guideline as a screening tool to determine sliding scale assignment of uninsured, or underinsured patients.
  • Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including HIPAA, sexual harassment, Scope of Practice, OSHA, etc.
  • Deescalates irate patients as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
