About The Position

This part-time position requires working 20 hours weekly, Monday through Friday, with varied day shifts and a weekend rotation. The primary function is to receive and direct patients and visitors at the reception desk, coordinating patient flow within the department and accurately processing patient information. The role involves handling communications through telephone, fax, and email efficiently, as well as collecting patient payments such as co-insurance and deductibles. The position is specific to Diagnostic Imaging and Neurophysiology Laboratory, with essential functions and responsibilities outlined for each.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent, with concentration in business education.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills.
  • Prior experience demonstrating reception and basic business skills preferred.
  • Typing at a minimum of 40 words per minute.

  • Medical Terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a neat, clean work area; communicates to housekeeping needs as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates competency and adherence to all organizational safety directives and policies.
  • Verbalizes understanding of the hospital's quality model and quality tools.
  • Accommodates overtime requirements or changing priorities in the workplace.
  • Prioritizes workload at the beginning of the shift to maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Receives all patients at the reception window in Diagnostic Imaging or MRI.
  • Answers telephone in reception area; responds to requests for information.
  • Completes check-in process for all patients and prints face sheets.
  • Checks for accuracy of registration including correct name, date of birth, medical record number, and account number.
  • Reviews patient order, assuring that correct ordering doctor is listed on all orders.
  • Requests patients to fill out medication check lists and magnet safety screenings as needed.
  • Enters orders for Diagnostic Imaging studies into Meditech noting accuracy of information.
  • Notifies appropriate technologist upon arrival of scheduled or nonscheduled patients.
  • Receives requests for scheduling of urgent/stat Diagnostic Imaging procedures.
  • Completes Medical Necessity verification process including obtaining ABNs.
  • Prepares and organizes Meditech History/Order sheets.
  • Checks frequently for call reports printed by Radiologists.
  • Relays information on stat reports to patient or requesting provider.
  • Accurately processes Point of Service collections from patients.
  • Receives requests from patients for copies of reports and CDs.
  • Successfully operates Meditech and Synapse information systems.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with departmental and hospital policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of various departmental jobs; maintains ability to assist in other positions.
