About the position

The position involves working with reinforcing bars in industrial construction settings. The role requires reading and understanding blueprints, aiding in rigging operations, and selecting and shaping reinforcing bars to meet specific requirements. The individual will be responsible for placing, securing, and reinforcing steel bars in concrete forms, ensuring that all materials are positioned correctly to support structural loads. The job also includes operating various tools and equipment safely, performing maintenance on tools, and adhering to safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands blueprints and elevations.
• Aids in rigging operations, connections, and disconnections.
• Selects, measures, cuts, bends, and shapes reinforcing bars to specifications.
• Places rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.
• Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms.
• Cuts bars to required lengths using hacksaws, band saws, or acetylene torches.
• Bends steel rods with hickey bars or rod-bending machines.
• Reinforces concrete with wire mesh as needed.
• Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
• Cleans and performs minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Restocks supplies and materials as necessary.
• Safely traverses uneven terrain with or without tools and materials.
• Climbs vertical ladders and works above ground as necessary.
• Safely operates power tools and equipment.
• Climbs rebar cages and walls, working at height while hanging from rebar structures.
• Adheres to all safety procedures.

Requirements

• Typically requires 48 months of industrial construction experience.
• Knowledge of weights of different bar sizes per foot and bar diameters.
• Ability to safely operate power tools and equipment.
• Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain and climb vertical ladders.
