About the position

The position involves working with reinforcing bars in industrial construction settings. The role requires reading and understanding blueprints, aiding in rigging operations, and selecting and shaping reinforcing bars to meet specific requirements. The individual will be responsible for placing rods in forms, ensuring they are properly secured, and reinforcing concrete structures. The job also includes cutting, bending, and positioning steel bars, as well as performing maintenance on tools and equipment. Safety is a critical aspect of this role, as it involves working at heights and traversing uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands blueprints and elevations.
• Aids in rigging operations, connections, and disconnections.
• Selects, measures, cuts, bends, and shapes reinforcing bars to specifications.
• Places rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.
• Knowledge of weights of different bar sizes and diameters.
• Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms.
• Cuts bars to required lengths using various tools.
• Bends steel rods with hickey bars or rod-bending machines.
• May reinforce concrete with wire mesh.
• Ensures all reinforcing material is positioned correctly for structural load.
• Loads, transports, and unloads materials and tools.
• Assists in lifting and securing materials during installation.
• Cleans and performs minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Restocks supplies and materials as necessary.
• Safely traverses uneven terrain with or without tools.
• Climbs vertical ladders and works above ground as necessary.
• Uses hand tools dexterously and safely operates power tools.
• Climbs rebar cages and walls, working at height.
• Adheres to all safety procedures.

Requirements

• Typically requires 48 months of industrial construction experience.
