About The Position

The rebar installer is responsible for positioning and securing steel reinforcing bars or mesh in concrete forms to reinforce concrete. This is a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ years’ experience in construction, warehouse, survey, or general labor.
  • Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
  • Must be able to take initiative.
  • Possess a keen attention to detail and be able to follow instructions.
  • Workers must provide their own safety footwear.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and stakeholders.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous verifiable experience as a rebar installer.
  • Experienced in construction layout, blueprint reading and shop drawing reading.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying and positioning heavy steel bars by hand, tying pieces of reinforcing bar together using wire and pliers and in-place horizontally for paving or floors, or vertical for columns and walls.
  • Position, space and fasten together rods in forms according to blueprints, using wire and pliers.
  • Place blocks under rebar to hold the bars off the deck when reinforcing floors.
  • Cut rods to required lengths, using metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, cut off saws or acetylene torches.
  • Determines number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches or oral instructions
  • Bending over to tie bars and pick-up heavy loads.
  • Carries single or multiple reinforcing bars in 10, 20, 40, or 60-feet lengths alone or as part of a lifting team.
  • Determines number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.
  • Loads, transports, unloads material, tool, equipment, and supplies.
  • May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
  • Able and willing to perform other concrete related work that may normally be performed by carpenters or laborers when necessary.
