About The Position

Handles hourly energy transactions across trading hubs in the Western Interconnection. Responsible for meeting the power demands of our retail customers in a 24/7 operation and optimizes the use of surplus generation capacity and transmission in hourly bilateral markets. Manages sub-hourly markets by submitting bids, schedules, and transfer tags to the Market Operator. Implements risk management strategies and minimizes power costs for customers by maximizing asset utilization. Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety. Demonstrates commitment to conduct business honestly, ethically and consistent with our core values and Code of Conduct. Ensures duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree with a technical or commercial focus from an accredited 4-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience in energy trading/scheduling, marketing, or bulk power and gas system management.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in power trading. Experience with physical/financial power trading dynamics to include power generation characteristics of hydro, coal, wind, and gas fired generation.
  • Solid base understanding, including all details, surrounding the assets and contracts in the portfolio.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and resolve problems, without direct supervision, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating shift schedule.

  • Experience specific to WECC energy markets.
  • Advanced spreadsheet and database computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Markets and trades surplus/deficit of wholesale energy, transmission, and capacity products.
  • Independently schedules/tags transmission, energy, and reserves.
  • Adheres to the economic dispatch plan and makes adjustments when required.
  • Manages planned or unplanned generation and transmission outages to the benefit of the organization.
  • Assists in the development of Real-Time Operations staff.
  • Implements strategies to flow power throughout WECC (Western Electricity Coordinating Council) markets.
  • Operates on rotating shift assignments to cover 24/7 demand for electricity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
