The Real-Time Energy Market Trader I will play a critical role in optimizing the New York Power Authority's (NYPA) diverse generation portfolio in the NYISO real-time market. This position involves the development of bidding strategies for energy and ancillary services for NYPA’s generation assets, including fossil fuel and hydropower facilities, to optimize revenue while ensuring compliance with market rules and operational requirements. Key responsibilities include purchasing and managing natural gas and fuel oil supplies for NYPA’s fossil fuel plants, optimizing hydro reservoir storage, and responding to market conditions and trends. The trader will assess resource availability, market pricing and implement strategies to ensure efficient, cost-effective operation. The successful candidate will coordinate closely with internal stakeholders, including System Operators, Fuel Supply, and Plant Operations teams, as well as external entities such as the NYISO, to ensure reliable unit availability and alignment during planned or unplanned outages. This role requires working 12-hour shifts (including nights/weekends/holidays), exceptional decision-making skills, strong communication abilities, and a deep understanding of energy markets and fuel management. As a member of NYPA's trading team, the Real-Time Energy Market Trader will contribute to advancing the authority’s mission of delivering affordable, clean, and reliable energy to New Yorkers.
