Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle. The Real-Time Embedded Systems discipline within CDS is responsible for the foundational software layer that abstracts the hardware and manages the resources for engine control and prognostic and health management applications for P&W engines using state of the art technologies, tools & methodologies.

  • Lead projects and people with strong cross-functional integration, ensuring seamless collaboration with other CDS teams and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical oversight for the team's work on safety-critical embedded software projects.
  • Identify & plan tasks, coordinate daily activities and lead the team to deliver results with cross-functional integration across various engineering disciplines (e.g., control systems, hardware).
  • Demonstrate forward thinking and good decision-making in technical and resource allocation matters, proactively addressing potential roadblocks.
  • Identify the need for and plan a project, including defining scope, milestones, and necessary resources.
  • Coach and mentor team members, fostering professional growth and knowledge transfer, especially for early career engineers.
  • Experience with software configuration management, issue tracking tools, and agile methodologies.
  • Identify key process improvements to increase efficiency and maintain compliance with standards.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups with CDS Product Managers and present as needed to CIPT.
  • Interface with the customer to understand and aid in debugging issues at customer test beds.
  • Author and review requirements, capture designs, and write low-level software for embedded target processors in C language.
  • Perform software debugging on the target platform and conduct hardware-software integration testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree and 5 years’ experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams or projects, demonstrating the core leadership skills listed above.
  • Direct, hands-on experience in the development and troubleshooting of safety-critical embedded software (e.g., compliant with RTCA DO-178C or similar standards).
  • Proven experience in control system software architecture, requirements, and design.
  • Solid experience in C, or assembly language programming.
  • Experience with scripting languages
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as ARINC429, CAN bus, and the Ethernet communication stack.
