About The Position

The Real Estate Appraiser at Cohen & Company plays a crucial role in the Valuation & Litigation Support Services team, focusing on providing accurate and confidential appraisals for a diverse range of clients. This position requires a blend of technical expertise in real estate appraisal and public accounting, along with strong client service skills and an entrepreneurial spirit. The appraiser will lead the team, ensure compliance with industry standards, and engage in business development activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required
• 5+ years of experience, combined between real estate appraisal and public accounting
• Licensed general appraiser in at least one state
• Ability to travel as needed
• MAI designation preferred
• Ability to easily transition between projects and engagements
• Team player
• Desire for continuous learning & entrepreneurial spirit

Responsibilities

• Help lead and build out the real estate appraiser team
• Prep or review of real estate appraisal reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with industry standards and regulations
• Review work associated with audit support
• Prep work related to financial reporting for tax reporting and planning
• Verify the validity of data used in appraisals, including property details, market trends, and comparable sales
• Collaborate with key stakeholders regularly within both assurance and tax departments
• Participate in business development related activity, both internally and externally
