The Real Estate and Construction Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial reports, records, and general ledgers related to assigned properties and construction projects. This individual will ensure sound financial management by properly receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling transactions. A successful Real Estate and Construction Accountant will be organized and able to manage various projects, and understand this role is critical to the reputation and operation of Tailwind Group. This is a full-time position working a standard schedule, Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm. Nights or weekends may be required from time to time dependent on business needs. The compensation range for this position is $58,000 - $72,000 per year plus bonus potential. This range is determined by current market data based on the position requirements and complexities. Final offers of employment will be based on multiple factors including candidate education, skills, experience, and location.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Two or more years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, articulate, and compile financial reports used for business correspondence.
  • Experience working in a growing, fast-paced environment managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possess strong administrative, organization, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to have a positive and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Be a self-motivated individual and excel at working in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in real estate, project, and/or construction accounting is preferred.
  • Experience with Entrata software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the Accounting Department.
  • Ensure accurate entry, approval, coding, and matching of payables and receivables.
  • Manage day-to-day payment cycle activities.
  • Reconcile accounts in a timely manner, including daily bank clears.
  • Enter key financial data daily into accounting software.
  • Research and resolve accounting or documentation discrepancies.
  • Prepare and distribute management reports and financial activity summaries.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end closings.
  • Assist with processing tenant refunds.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • Prepare financial reporting for investors and lenders.
  • Prepare and process monthly investor distribution payments.
  • Process immediate-need construction invoices when necessary.
  • Prepare and include vendor lien waivers with any immediate-need vendor payments.
  • Follow up with vendors to obtain lien waivers for title agent and lender submission.
  • Prepare monthly construction funding requests using construction management software.
  • Submit completed draw requests for internal approval using DocuSign.
  • Submit executed draw requests and supporting documentation to the title agent and lender.
  • Record funding of draw requests by entering invoices into A/P, processing payments, and creating related journal entries.
  • Communicate daily with operations team members, including Property Managers, Regional Property Managers, Resident Service Managers, and Maintenance Managers.
  • Communicate with vendors, clients, and banking contacts in a professional and timely manner.
