Requirements

  • Minimum high school education with business, logistical, or communicational training.
  • Building industry background desirable.
  • Ability to multi-task with excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Good computer skills with knowledge of current operating systems and office suites.
  • Ability to analyze problems quickly and make good decisions.
  • Reliable attendance and work record.
  • Good phone and communication skills.
  • Thorough and detail-oriented.
  • Willingness to work longer hours.
  • Ability to handle pressure and stress while staying composed.
  • Demonstrated teamwork ethic.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with dispatch employees and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor orders, tracking and scheduling, and make adjustments necessary to maintain service while best utilizing drivers and equipment.
  • Ensure the scheduling graph reflects the correct availability of trucks and proper delivery times.
  • Direct dispatch when the schedule becomes booked to accommodate additional orders.
  • Forward emails to the Customer Service/Dispatch Manager when a driver is late or out sick.
  • Track the progress of orders at all dispatch regions and direct truck movement as necessary.
  • Confer with the Customer Service/Dispatch Manager to direct plant closings and reschedule orders.
  • Assist the Dispatcher with truck relocations during temporary breakdowns.
  • Notify emergency services in the event of an accident/incident and dispatch necessary personnel.
  • Communicate with customers regarding their orders or service interruptions.
  • Schedule all plant and driver safety meetings.
  • Dispatch the day if the Dispatcher is absent.
  • Manage daily 'Key Orders' with the Dispatcher.
  • Ensure Customer Service Representatives take orders accurately and promote value-added products.
