About The Position

The position involves performing professional level instruction to students enrolled in GED preparation and TABE reading and math preparation classes, as well as high school diploma programs. The instructor is responsible for teaching social skills, employability skills, applied academics, and project-based learning. Key responsibilities include ensuring reading gains, maintaining accurate attendance records, managing classroom discipline, and engaging students actively. The instructor will also participate in team meetings, complete required training, and report directly to the departmental manager. Additional duties include delivering necessary accommodations to students, evaluating student progress, and facilitating communication with center departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Certified to teach in the state where the center is located (RO may waive if unable to hire certified teachers, but the candidate must pursue certification).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, groups of managers, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw related conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram terms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional level instruction to students in GED preparation and TABE reading and math preparation classes.
  • Instruct social skills, employability skills, applied academics, and project-based learning.
  • Ensure reading gains and monitor classroom incidents.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records hourly per class period.
  • Manage classroom environment and discipline for effective learning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of competency-based instruction and cooperative learning techniques.
  • Participate in weekly center team meetings and departmental meetings.
  • Complete required staff training in a timely manner.
  • Model and mentor appropriate workplace behavior.
  • Complete weekly reports as required.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment.
  • Participate in active shooter and fire drills.
  • Deliver necessary accommodations to students.
  • Evaluate and record student progress and case notes in CIS.
  • Deliver quality customer service to students.
  • Assist with student retention.
  • Maintain lesson plans relevant to course material.
  • Employ activities that build CSS and employability skills for students.
  • Monitor TABE achievements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
