About The Position

Position: Reading and Math Tutor School: Emerson-Williams Elementary School Reports To: Building Principal Start Date: December 2, 2025 Compensation: $27.18 - $32.06 per hour worked Hours: 5.75 hours per day, 28.75 hours per week (Monday-Friday) Application Date: Posting will remain open until filled. Benefits: As a tutor working less than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible for various benefits including paid sick time, paid personal days, and retirement benefits. Please note there are no health care, life insurance, or disability benefits associated with this position for work assignments less than 30 hours/week. This is a union position. Emerson Williams Elementary School has an opening for a Reading and Math Tutor. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with superior communication skills to provide student intervention support for the 2025-2026 academic year. The chosen candidate will begin the assignment on August 27, 2025, and will continue through the end of the school year (June 2026). The Reading and Math Tutor will work across all grade levels (K-6) to support students with direct, targeted intervention/instruction to promote student growth toward grade-level expectations and goal mastery.

Requirements

  • Hold a minimum of an Associate's Degree;

  • Patience, flexibility, and adaptability.

Nice To Haves

  • Elementary Teacher certification is preferred, but not required;

Responsibilities

  • Implement daily lesson plans for students targeting individualized support in reading and/or math;
  • Work directly with students to provide targeted small group/one-on-one instruction as well as routine push-in support in classrooms.
  • Provide students with positive feedback and encouragement;
  • Support student understanding of math and literacy concepts and demonstration of fluency skills;
  • Track and maintain records of student progress;
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support student needs through small group instruction, communicate goals/achievements, progress, student challenges, and changes in interventions;
  • Foster a positive learning environment that is sensitive to student needs and promotes increased learning performance;
  • Provide the building reading consultant, curriculum specialist, and classroom teachers with regular reports of student progress toward learning goals.;
  • May be asked to substitute for another staff member during instances where there is no other substitute available
