About The Position

The Reader Characterization Summer Intern position at Seagate Technology involves working within the Characterization and Analytics Group (CAG) to conduct electrical testing of advanced recording head technologies. The intern will focus on performance and reliability testing of magnetoresistive tunneling devices, contributing to the development and validation of new test methods.

Requirements

  • Possess knowledge and understanding of magnetism and spintronics
  • Show interest in developing new metrology concepts and converting them into successful experiments
  • Currently enrolled in a science or engineering Masters or PhD program and must be enrolled in Fall 2025 classes

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of data analysis software (e.g., Matlab, JMP) is preferred
  • Experience in high frequency measurements (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, etc.) will be a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform quasi-static testing of magnetic recording heads
  • Classify electrical noise behavior using spectrum and time domain analysis
  • Characterize MgO tunnel barriers using differential conductance
  • Analyze test results and build links to device physics
  • Participate in conceptual development and validation of new test methods
