About The Position

Performs reactor surveillance and reload initial startup testing, core performance monitoring and trending, coordinates fuel assembly- related activities in the plant, and outage refuel support. Provides technical support to reactor operations, and implements portions of the Special Nuclear Material, Fuel Integrity, and Reactivity Management programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Physics (Required).
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and interface with all levels of personnel required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Nuclear Engineering is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in technical discipline (Preferred).
  • SRO certification or license (Preferred).
  • 2 years is nuclear power related. (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Reactor Testing: Perform periodic Technical Specification surveillance testing to verify that the reactor core is operating within prescribed limits during the fuel cycle. Perform post-refueling low power physics and power ascension testing to verify that the reactor core operates within established design and safety review criteria. Perform periodic engineering tests to evaluate or establish specific reactor characteristics or conditions.
  • Core Follow: Monitor, trend, and evaluate reactor core performance using test results, chemistry samples, and plant instrumentation indications or plant computer logs of reactor parameters.
  • Fuel Assembly Management: Coordinate movement, repair, and inspections of nuclear fuel assemblies, prepare fuel movement forms, provide fuel handling recommendations to Operations, and support the fuel integrity program.
  • Special Nuclear Material and Reactivity Management Program Support: Perform procedural actions to provide control and accountability of Special Nuclear Material within the plant. Perform technical reviews of procedures, modification packages, operating experience, and plant evaluations which can affect reactivity, then make recommendations to improve the control and management of reactivity at the station.
  • Fuel Performance: Trend, monitor, and analyze plant indications for failed fuel or core components. Support as required fuel fabrication vendor oversight activities. Monitor lifetime and recommend replacement schedules for core components such as control rods and secondary sources.
  • Fuel Engineering: Identify and perform engineering evaluations of nuclear fuel and core component conditions adverse to quality. Evaluate nuclear fuel and core component design changes, provide technical support for spent fuel management issues.
  • Fuel Inspections and Repair: Work with the fuel vendor and other station stakeholders to perform or coordinate assigned duties during nuclear fuel receipt, inspection and repair activities, and fuel cleaning campaigns. Evaluate results and provide recommendations to management.
  • Technical Support: Prepare and review procedures, calculations, safety evaluations, and technical computer codes. Perform reviews of operating experience reports and license amendment changes. Provide reactivity management and reactor core operation technical guidance to plant operations. Use technical computer codes to obtain or evaluate reactor data. As required, prepare reports of test or inspection results to EPRI, INPO, and NRC.
  • Provide engineering expertise when required to support complex plant issues or requests for assistance from other site organizations.
  • Act as "CHAMPION" for reactor core and nuclear fuel performance. Advocate reactivity and fuel integrity program health with an emphasis on improving overall plant performance and reliability.
  • Accept outage position as assigned.
  • Accept ERO position as assigned and be able to meet the time response requirements. (Technical Support Center Nuclear engineer 75-minute response).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.
  • Successfully complete General Employee Training (GET) as required for position.
  • Support rotational engineering duty.
