In this vital role you will serve as the “COO” of multiple Research Project Teams (pairing closely with the relevant Program Team Leads (PTLs), who serve as the “CEO” of the team), to ensure the program has a high-performing operating process that aligns team execution tactics with program strategy. You will lead without authority across a matrix environment—owning the fundamentals (cross-functional meeting management, agendas, minutes, decisions/actions, building integrated project plans and Gantt charts, and bringing awareness of risks, issues, and dependencies). The result of your efforts will be to enable high-quality decision-making, governance readiness, and execution. When programs are partnered with Amgen’s external alliance partners, you may also serve a dual role as the program’s collaboration management lead and first point of contact for alliance execution and agreement-related questions—ensuring effective joint governance and delivery of partnership obligations. This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of relevant experience Or Master’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience Or Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience Or Associate’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience Or High school diploma / GED and 12 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ years in the Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry, including cross-functional engagement, business operations, alliance management and/or project management experience
  • Advanced life science degree or equivalent experience (i.e., strong scientific acumen)
  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research and Development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong competencies in planning, project management, and organization with the ability to lead multiple activities in parallel while maintaining a focus on quality and timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp knowledge of multiple disciplines and to learn new fields quickly
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles without authority
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and executive presence across functions and across different levels of leadership
  • Independent, motivated, flexible, and resourceful to navigate a matrix environment
  • Understanding of intellectual property

Responsibilities

  • Project team operations and meeting excellence (day‑to‑day project management fundamentals)
  • Partners closely with the Program Team Lead (PTL) to ensure Governance and decision readiness (internal and joint forums)
  • Leads governance decision readiness in partnership with the PTL: coordinates cross‑functional inputs and delivers decision‑quality materials with clear options, tradeoffs, recommendation, and explicit ask.
  • Provides senior‑leadership program visibility: delivers consistent, accurate status reporting.
  • Collaboration management for partnered programs Establishes and maintains the joint operating model with alliance partners.
