About The Position

This position exists to provide accurate and timely clinical data for billing and optimal reimbursement, quality assessment, comparative databases, physician profiling, and administrative purposes. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, inpatient facility coding or rectifying pre-bill coding related edits and coding related denials. Context & Purpose of Role Assisting in reducing volumes, AR, and aging accounts

Requirements

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credential required.
  • Requires ability to read, understand and interpret medical records and other treatment documentation.
  • Requires a high level of interpersonal, problem solving, and analytic skills.
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with others.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires strong attention to detail, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Requires ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS for every possible type of inpatient service line from birth to death.
  • Abstracting admission and discharge disposition information
  • Abstracting procedure information
  • Communication – placing referrals for assistance on accounts needing additional information, clarification on diagnoses or coding, adjustments to account info, etc.
  • Communicating with fellow coders for resources and engagement.
  • An inpatient coder will reach out via referrals to CDI and HIM for coding query requests and missing documentation.
  • They will also work closely with coding quality for scorecard reviews, coder discussions, and coding education.
