About The Position

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Procuring raw material such as logs, sawdust, wood shavings, firewood and certain paper products as well as managing schedules and delivery, communicating lead times to the plants, selling off excess material when necessary and managing raw material database.

Requirements

  • Log, Wood /Wood Fiber purchasing experience, preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years raw material buyer experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance raw material inventory with production and maintenance needs
  • Highly motivated and results oriented
  • Travel required (up to 50%)

Responsibilities

  • Strategically develop new supply sources as necessary and manage existing supply ensuring quality requirements and product specifications are met.
  • Develop and enhance current and potential supplier relationships; maintain an extensive peer network across direct and ancillary industries and disciplines to draw upon for potential supply, market intelligence, and company promotion
  • Coordinate company resources (Engineering, Production, Sales, QA/QC, and Maintenance) in the selection and qualification of new suppliers.
  • Reduce total acquisition costs through effective supplier contract negotiations and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Continually manage flow, schedule, quality, and delivery of incoming raw material, in concert with facility and corporate management, to optimize inventory and production targets.
  • Work with RM team, facility and corporate staff to enhance information management so that data is collected, used, and shared regularly and efficiently;
  • Bulk sales responsibility including maintaining proper inventory levels, relationships, and negotiating positive gross profit (GP).
  • Participate in industry events, conferences, and seminars on behalf of AWF to gain market intelligence and develop networking opportunities
  • Participate in/lead special projects as needed or requested; contribute to the overall financial and operational planning process.
  • Continues to improve consultative and persuasive selling skills
  • Attends and participates in scheduled meetings.   Be alert to others, including peers, customers, prospects, suppliers, and competitors by learning, listening and observing.
  • Establishes personal goals, works with others towards continuous improvement and develops individual and collective abilities through continued education, seminars and company provided training programs.
  • Assists in educating AWF team members on market information gathered from travel conferences and seminars.
