About The Position

Rations Assistants at NOLS Rocky Mountain operate in the rations (field food) department. Rations Assistants work on a team to pack bulk food for NOLS field courses. The team also aims to promote a friendly, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students, field faculty, staff, and community members. Applicants must have legal working rights in the United States. Location: NOLS Rocky Mountain campus in Lander, WY. No employee housing is available. Position type: Seasonal, May/June - August/September 2025. Start date: May or June 2025. Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available at a special NOLS rate to seasonal employees.

Requirements

  • Desire to learn about bulk field rations, cooking, and nutrition.
  • Enjoys detail-oriented work and strives for excellence.
  • Able to stay engaged during repetitive tasks.

  • Able to work effectively on a team and follow through with tasks independently.
  • Positive, friendly approach to student-service.
  • Committed to serving people with special dietary needs (e.g. Celiac, vegan, peanut allergy) with care and excellence.
  • Able to lift and carry 50+ lbs (items such as bags of flour, full duffle bags, and full coolers).
  • Willing to accommodate flexible work hours/schedules including early mornings, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Pack bulk food for Rocky Mountain field expeditions.
  • Perform repetitive and detail-oriented prep tasks.
  • Accurately bag and divide course rations and re-rations.
  • Receive and put away food orders.
  • Facilitate rationing sessions with faculty and students.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly rations facility.
  • Assist faculty and students in the de-issuing process.
  • Assist with public, student, and instructor food sales.
  • Provide timely and growth-oriented feedback to supervisor and co-workers.
  • Support other departments across the RM as the schedule allows.
