About The Position

The Rate Specialist is primarily responsible for evaluating, interpreting, and entering client freight rate information into several computer programs and investigating discrepancies, rating, auditing, and reviewing claims. In addition, this role is responsible to uphold our core values: Ethics, Engagement, and Excellence.

  • A high attention to detail is required, including verifying all work completed.
  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field, or 1-2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Proficient in 10-key by touch
  • Experience in customer service environment
  • Working knowledge of transportation industry, specifically commercial tariffs, transportation methods, and freight industry terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Read, evaluate, understand, and interpret basic freight rate contracts.
  • Comprehend carrier pricing, rules tariff, contract rates, and NMFC/Commodity identification for true cost of items shipped.
  • Have knowledge of standards, rate orders, and classification rating guides to enter necessary rate information into our proprietary rate system.
  • Verify freight rates against actual bills once entered for accuracy.
  • Work directly with other departments to obtain clarification when necessary.
  • Efficiently use our proprietary task-tracking tool.
  • Research contract discrepancies against freight bills.
  • Work directly with carriers and clients to obtain clarification when necessary.
  • Communicate with internal staff and customers via phone, email, and in person.
  • Assist team members and performs other incidental and related duties are required and assigned.
