About The Position

The Range Control Officer (RCO) is responsible for overseeing, directing, and coordinating operations for various Primary Training Ranges (PTRs) managed by ACC across multiple locations. This role ensures safety during aircraft operations and ground weapons fire activities, while also managing logistics, planning exercises, and serving as a subject matter expert in military operations. The RCO plays a critical role in maintaining operational readiness and compliance with military standards.

Requirements

  • Meet minimum qualifications for RCO's as defined in AFMAN 13-212V1, A5.4.24.
  • Military experience in rated aircrew, JTAC, ABM, ETAC, ATC, Weapons Director, or previous range control officer experience.
  • Experience in management, supervision, or control of air operations on military ranges.
  • Expert knowledge of DoD, DAF, DA, ACC, AFSOC, USASOC missions and organizational structures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of range and airspace scheduling and coordinating issues.
  • Ability to perform duties in a stressful environment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of computer systems including USAF databases and word processing applications.
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and patience in sensitive situations.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Joint Readiness Exercises and multi-lateral exercises.
  • Knowledge of operational methods and processes related to range operations.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for matters of range safety during aircraft operations, emergencies, and ground weapons fire activities.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for Joint Terminal Attack Control, Joint Close Air Support, and other military exercises.
  • Plan conferences, coordinate airspace and range scheduling, and manage logistics requirements.
  • Lead training exercises involving the Range Air/Ground Training complex and monitor safe range operations.
  • Conduct after action reviews and follow up on corrective recommendations.
  • Attend all required training by the United States Air Force and maintain qualified status for each program.
  • Man Control Towers 15 minutes prior to any scheduled range flying activity.
