Ramp Service Agent
About The Position
Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) is a global leader in cargo, passenger, ramp handling, and technical services, operating across 164 airport locations in 18 countries. As a Part-Time Ramp Agent in San Diego, you will be responsible for essential ramp service tasks, including the safe and secure loading and unloading of baggage, marshalling aircraft, and performing water servicing. This role requires a strong focus on safety and attention to detail and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Transport Workers Union (TWU).
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to lift and handle heavy baggage (up to 50 lbs or more)
- Valid Driver's license, must be maintained throughout employment in this role
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and flight crews
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operating ground support equipment
- Ability to pass background checks and comply with airport security regulations
- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety protocols
- Fluently read, write, and speak the English language
- Joining the TWU and paying union dues
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in aviation or ground handling operations
- Familiarity with aircraft types and airport layout
- Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols in the airport environment
- Experience operating ground support equipment, such as tugs and belt loaders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills for completing paperwork and using scheduling systems
- Strong customer service orientation and a positive attitude toward passenger interactions
Responsibilities
- Marshall aircraft upon arrival and departure.
- Load and unload baggage on and off aircraft.
- Safely drive and operate ground support equipment, including belt loaders, tugs, and baggage carts to pick-up and deliver bags between the terminal and aircraft.
- Sort and load baggage.
- Perform ground service functions, such as connecting/removing ground power and ground start units and water service.
- Perform aircraft pushback, wing walking and related guide man functions.
- Maintain a secure work environment.
