About The Position

The Ramp Agent Lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily ramp operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling of aircraft, baggage, and cargo. This role provides direction and leadership to ramp agents, ensuring operational excellence, adherence to safety standards, and effective communication between ramp personnel and airline representatives. The Ramp Agent Lead plays a critical role in supporting the Below Wing Supervisor and ensuring timely and smooth aircraft turnarounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of ramp or ground handling experience required; supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating ground support equipment and performing physical tasks, including lifting heavy items.
  • Strong understanding of ground handling procedures, safety protocols, and ramp operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment under varied weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate ramp agents to ensure all ground handling tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Assign duties and monitor workflow to maintain on-time performance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ramp staff during assigned shifts.
  • Train, mentor, and coach new and existing team members on procedures, safety, and performance expectations.
  • Conduct briefings before and after shifts to communicate priorities, updates, and safety information.
  • Oversee safe and efficient aircraft arrival, parking, towing, and departure activities.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturers and regulatory guidelines during all servicing operations (fueling, lavatory, and water).
  • Verify that all ramp procedures support on-time aircraft departures.
  • Supervise proper loading and unloading of baggage and cargo to prevent damage and ensure balance compliance.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and coordination with airline staff regarding baggage discrepancies or priority cargo.
  • Verify ground support equipment (GSE) use and readiness for operations.
  • Enforce adherence to FAA, TSA, and airport safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and equipment inspections, report hazards immediately.
  • Support the Below Wing Supervisor in investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through accountability and ongoing training.
  • Coordinate with other airport departments to maintain efficient ramp operations.
  • Monitor performance metrics such as turnaround times and equipment utilization.
  • Assist with scheduling and resource allocation to meet operational needs.
  • Serve as a liaison between ramp staff, airline representatives, and management.
  • Handle and resolve operational issues promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure courteous and professional interactions with passengers and airline personnel.
  • Maintain detailed records of ramp activities, including incidents, delays, and equipment use.
  • Provide shift reports and updates to management.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
