About The Position

The Ramp Agent position at Southwest Airlines involves working outdoors to direct planes on the ground, handle cargo and baggage, and ensure smooth airport operations. Ramp Agents are problem-solvers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with other Airport Operations Teams to meet flight departure timelines. This is a part-time opportunity, with shifts determined by a seniority-based bidding process. New hires will undergo 4-6 weeks of training, consisting of 8-hour classroom or on-the-job training over 5 days each week. After training, work weeks will consist of 6.5-hour shifts over 5 days, with potential for mandatory overtime. The role includes working assigned shifts based on seniority, which may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a SIDA badge and meet all local airport requirements.
  • Must be able to lift and move items of 70 pounds and/or more regularly and repetitively lift weights of 40 to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop frequently and for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in cramped or high places and carry heavy items up and down jetway stairs.
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company standards.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must comply with Company attendance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly service to and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external Customers.
  • Work cooperatively to ensure the success of the Company.
  • Provide legendary Customer service to travelers using cargo or baggage service by servicing aircraft at ramps and terminals.
  • Load, unload, service, guide, and direct Company Aircraft.
  • Receive and record Customer baggage, air freight, mail, and company materials as required.
  • Handle all aspects of loading, stowing, and unloading baggage, cargo airmail, air freight, ballast, and company materials according to a predetermined plan.
  • Submit a Cargo Bin Loading Slip (CBLS) to an Operations Agent.
  • Pick up, deliver, and transport cargo and baggage to and from aircraft.
  • Warehouse, weigh, stack, pick up, and deliver air cargo, checking for mishandling or discrepancies.
  • Safeguard Customers' baggage, air cargo, air mail, and COMAT from weather, loss, theft, damage, and/or destruction.
  • Use jetway stairs frequently to carry items checked at the gate to the aircraft bin.
  • Perform interior aircraft cabin cleaning by hand, including sweeping upholstery and cleaning windows.
  • Clean and service lavatories, operate lavatory carts, and dispose of contents according to established procedures.
  • May perform duties of a Provisioning Agent, including stocking aircraft cabin interiors.
  • Maintain an inventory of items and supplies.
  • Transport cabin and cleaning equipment between aircraft storage areas.
  • Operate and/or drive motorized equipment, such as belt loaders and air start units.
  • Manually push and pull push carts and containers.
  • Work in the vicinity of and between passenger terminals, hangars, and airfreight facilities.
  • Complete forms and paperwork connected with work assignments according to established procedures.
