About The Position

This member serves in Fremont County developing, strengthening, and delivering youth development programs emphasizing 4-H Health Rocks, 4-H STEM, and 4-H Livestock to ensure that children and youth (ages 8-18) have the tools and opportunities that will lead to graduation from high school and preparation for entering the workforce while developing protective factors for making healthy choices and developing life skills. This position will also support special projects including: expansion of Master Gardener Volunteer Resources, Master Gardener Class Evaluation Feedback Analysis Project, and Volunteer Recruitment for AARP Tax Aide Volunteers. Term of Service/Time Commitment: This is a minimum-time national and community service position requiring, at a minimum, a total of 300 hours during the year (approximately 25 hours/week). The position begins in May 2026 and ends in August 2026. Location and Service Conditions: Members will serve at the Fremont County Extension Office (6655 State Hwy 115 Florence, CO 81226) in Fremont County, in the office or at other site delivery locations such as the 4-H Building and Kids Klub in Canon City, and some hours may be served remotely depending on the task. During the term of service, the AmeriCorps member in this position will be expected to uphold the following expectations: Be willing to provide direct services, strengthen the community, and build the organization’s capacity as described in the position description. Accurately complete and submit enrollment paperwork and reports; report data as requested. Able to use a computer for e-mail communication and online reporting. Able to be respectful, collaborative, and constructive in working environments. Uphold a passion for community building and making new connections. Wear official AmeriCorps identity items such as name tags, T-shirts, and lapel pins during all AmeriCorps service. Participate in weekly check-ins and semi-annual performance reviews with the site supervisor; submit an online biweekly timesheet to the site supervisor. Represent AmeriCorps, Colorado State University Extension, and Fremont County Extension professionally. Professional, respectful, and brings a positive attitude. Ability and willingness to serve in a team setting and to promote collaboration. Training and Support Provided: Members receive significant training and experience in community engagement, project implementation, leadership, diverse populations, and more. Up to 20% (or 60 hours) of total hours served may be spent in applicable approved trainings. Members will be supervised and supported by host site supervisors Julianne Dinkel, Kelsey Story, and Jennifer Stewart, as well as by Melinda Macpherson, RamCorps Program Manager ([email protected]). Members should participate in ongoing training and events as required and requested by AmeriCorps, CSU Extension, and/or Fremont County. Program Benefits: A living allowance of approximately $510.00 for full time per pay period on a bi-weekly cycle for an approximate total of $4080.00 for the term of service. Taxes are deducted and the living allowance is distributed by direct deposit to the member. An education award of $1,565.08 earned upon successful completion of term of service. It is possible to temporarily postpone repayment of qualified student loans through forbearance while serving as an AmeriCorps member. Possible mileage reimbursement for travel to required trainings and days of service. Access to ongoing professional development trainings and resources through the university. Experience working with professionals in the field with on the ground training. Full Consideration Date: 5/2/2026 Description of Work Unit: The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. OEE includes CSU Extension, Learning Innovation (including CSU Online), the Colorado Water Center, and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension (VPEE) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE works collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus and has strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US, and globally. At any given time, OEE includes over 400 employees. The total budget is approximately $95 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. The Fremont County CSU Extension Office services the community with educational programming for youth and adults in the areas of 4-H, youth development, agriculture, horticulture, health, food safety and finances. Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass required criminal background checks, including a National Sex Offender Website search.
  • AmeriCorps service is contingent on passing these background checks.
  • Be willing and able to complete the required service hours (Minimum time; 300 hours) between May 2026 and August 2026.
  • Experience working with youth, enjoyment of working with youth, and understanding of developmental milestones and characteristics.
  • Experience with office management tools such as Microsoft Office suite of products, Google suite of products, and other technology to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, and/or evaluate educational programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in professional community engagement, including delivering presentations, facilitating discussions, or collaborating with community partners and volunteers to achieve program objectives.
