Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of 2 years of Class 1 Railroad experience, preferably within the Maintenance of Way (MOW) department.
  • Ability to meet physical demands and perform required tasks effectively.
  • Capability to warn roadway workers of approaching trains.
  • Understanding of on-track safety training and qualification required for roadway workers.
  • Proficiency in radio procedures for communication between RWIC/EICs (Employee in Charge) and work groups.
  • Competence in conducting job briefings with roadway workers at their work location.
  • Ability to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
  • Skill in installing a railroad derail and applying the locking device.
  • Proficiency with electronic communications, including email, text, and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Nice To Haves

  • 2 - 5 years of experience in railroad track maintenance.
  • Prior experience working within a railway company.
  • Training in railway 'Track Inspection Guidelines' or equivalent, North On-Track Worker and Operating Rules.
  • UP North On-Track Worker and Operating Rules certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and error-free jobsite protection for each assignment.
  • Conduct daily job briefings with all personnel on-site, ensuring compliance with railroad safety requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required electronic forms, including job set-up forms for each flagging assignment, daily work reports, invoices, and other necessary reports.
  • Handle and place signs, derail, and other tools and equipment weighing between 15 to 90 pounds as needed throughout the day.
  • Actively participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
  • Maintain high levels of communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to meet business needs.
