About The Position

Tessera is seeking a skilled Railroad Engineer/Yard Engineer to manage yard operations and ensure the safe, efficient movement of railcars at Bangor- WS BOSC. This role includes operating locomotives, coordinating with crews, and upholding strict safety and compliance standards. Typical duties include but are not limited to: Operates locomotives and dedicated yard service equipment to move railcars within the yard and to/from various locations. Monitors and maintains yard operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and regulations. Direct and operate train movements, including coupling and uncoupling cars, connecting air hoses, and throwing switches. Conducts routine inspections of locomotives and railcars to ensure they meet operational and safety standards. Troubleshoots and resolves operational issues, coordinating with relevant departments to minimize disruptions. Maintains accurate records of train movements, inspections, and maintenance activities, documenting any incidents or irregularities. Participates in training programs to stay up-to-date on industry best practices, safety regulations, and technological advancements in railway operations. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of locomotives and railcars, identifying and reporting defects. This position may be subject to call-back availability based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma/GED is required.
  • 5-8 Years experience in rail operations, yard management, or related fields.
  • Valid Locomotive Engineer Certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of railroad operations, signaling, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
  • Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking.
  • Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
  • Per our government contract, 2.7.2.6, “No employee or representative of the Contractor will be admitted to the site of work unless satisfactory proof of U.S. citizenship is furnished.”
