About The Position

Birdsboro Quarry, a division of the H&K Group, Inc., is seeking a Railroad Conductor/Laborer to coordinate the operation of railroad locomotives, cars, and switching procedures in a safe and responsible manner, and support general labor activities in the yard to achieve daily production goals. Requirements

  • Prior railroad experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Training available based on balance of technical skills/experience, focus on safety, learning agility, and time management
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving and prioritization skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
  • Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution
  • Machinery knowledge
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Strong preference for Loader operation experience
  • Experience working in a quarry, rail yard, heavy civil construction, or other outdoor industrial setting
  • MSHA, FRA, and/or BMHKK RR or other relevant safety certification or experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work according to MSHA, FRA, BMHK RR, and H&K Safety policies
  • Moves levers and depresses pedals to control operation, function and movement of machinery
  • Feels and listens to operate equipment most efficiently
  • Cleans equipment as needed
  • Ensures equipment is safely and securely parked and stored
  • Maintains equipment by greasing properly and checking fluids daily (oils, coolant, fuel level)
  • Performs daily checks on equipment to ensure proper operating condition
  • Must perform daily work place safety exam if Brakeman/utility is not available
  • Notifies General Foreman of Railroad Operations of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
  • Other duties as assigned
