About The Position

This person will work with our team of railcar technicians to install and repair Shur-Co cover systems on customer railcars. The majority of this work will be performed outside, summer and winter, in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Job functions include installation and removal of large components, welding, grinding, hammering, riveting and similar operations. Work is typically done on elevated platforms, wearing PPE and fall protection. Five to ten hours per week of overtime is typical. Weekend work is typically not required. Travel to remote customer locations is occasionally required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Must be able to pass forklift certification test and drive a forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work with hands for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Follow all Shur-Co and customer safety rules and directions to perform railcar repairs safely.
  • Complete all required training and certifications required by Shur-Co and our customers.
  • Remove, repair and install cover system components on railcars using common hand and power tools.
  • Perform repair and maintenance tasks to maintain Shur-Co and customer owned equipment.
  • With proper training, operate equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, trucks, tractors, railcar movers, welding equipment, augers, generators, conveyor belts and vacuum systems.
  • Perform non-standard maintenance and support functions when requested by customers.
  • Unload parts shipments from trucks and store the inventory in designated locations.
  • Participate in cycle count and physical inventory functions.
  • Travel to various customer locations to repair and service railcar cover systems.
  • Work occasional overtime of up to 6 hours per day or weekends.
  • Provide a high level of attention to detail and focus on a given task.
  • Follow all company rules and policies.
  • Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Assemble items as instructed by Supervisor
  • Display the ability to be coached and learn new skills
  • Display the ability to organize materials in their designated locations
  • Dependable work ethics and punctual attendance are essential to the success of the job
