Responsible for assisting more experienced welders with the entire sequence of cutting and welding operations for a wide variety of repair and fabrication work. Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products. May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks. A significant portion of this role is to learn the trade from more experienced coworkers. Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds with proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to work within a teamwork environment with regular and predictable attendance.
  • Able to pass drug screen, physical and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced welders with cutting and welding operations for repair and fabrication work.
  • Align and weld components of metal tools, wires, fixtures, and other metal products.
  • Read and understand blueprints for car repairs.
  • Make car repairs in compliance with FRA & AAR rules.
  • Keep good repair records.
  • Follow all company guidelines and safety rules.
  • Perform welded repairs using air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
  • Use hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag, or spatter.
  • Repair, straighten, remove, and rework car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc.
  • Perform welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the materials area and other work areas.
