Job Overview – Railcar Mechanic As a Railcar Mechanic, you will play a hands-on role in maintaining and repairing railcars to meet industry and safety standards. Your work directly supports safe rail operations and uninterrupted freight movement. This is a physical, skilled position well-suited for individuals with mechanical aptitude who enjoy working with tools and seeing tangible results from their efforts. A Day in the Life Railcar Mechanics are actively engaged throughout their shift inspecting, repairing, and maintaining railcars. Typical duties include: Inspecting railcars for defects or wear Repairing or replacing steel components Cutting, grinding, and welding worn or damaged parts Using torches, welders, grinders, and hand tools Troubleshooting mechanical issues Following all safety procedures and identifying hazards No two days are exactly the same. You'll work independently and as part of a team, think critically, and take pride in restoring railcars to safe, service-ready condition.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Safety-first mindset and reliable work ethic
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work in an outdoor, industrial environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior railcar repair experience is not required.
  • Certified welding experience is preferred, and all necessary training, tools, and PPE are provided.
