About The Position

The Rail Switching Technician position at PSC Group involves working closely with the train engineer to safely move railcars in and out of the facility. This full-time role offers a stable career in the rail industry, with responsibilities including railcar management and track maintenance. Requirements

  • Experience is a plus but not required
  • May require a valid Driver's License and/or a valid TWIC card, depending on work location
  • Must be 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
  • Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Examine track list to spot, separate, load and/or build railcars for shipment
  • Ensure railcars are properly connected and/or secured by setting the brake
  • Separate loaded railcars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded
  • Weigh all inbound and outbound loads and empties to ensure weights do not exceed limits
  • Repair and rebuild railroad tracks using power and non-power hand tools
  • Pull spikes from ties, drill holes through rails for insertion and fastening of bolts, and replace ballast
  • Operate large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers
  • Operate electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders
  • Lift and carry track material
  • Assist with re-railing of derailed railcars
  • Complete any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job
