About The Position

The Rail Operator is responsible for the day-to-day functions and maintenance of the rail infrastructure at empirical. The Rail Operator is responsible for ensuring the rail line is maintained in accordance to established safety standards and company guidelines that support the Rail Operator in carrying out their daily tasks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain certification to operate rail car mover and other motor driven machinery.
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate a sense of urgency and dependability.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of rail experience or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control the rail operation including equipment, people, and processes to meet rail, production, and sanitation schedules and requirements.
  • Ensure equipment is performing optimally and in accordance with safety and quality assurance standards; notify management or correct any problems immediately.
  • Assist in teardown, cleaning, and rebuilding of equipment; ensure efficient and timely startup of equipment to maintain production schedules.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of rail tracks, including debris and snow clearing.
  • Drive a railcar mover to assist with loading and unloading of incoming product.
  • Maintain integrity and follow procedures and processes established by ownership.
  • Ensure smooth shift transitions and full communication of related items to prevent production interruptions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of rail loadout area and other work areas.
  • Learn all aspects and be knowledgeable of all systems related to rail and tanker trucks.
  • Lead in safe work practices and safety initiatives; report unsafe work conditions and ensure hazards are reported and repaired.
  • Provide backup or support to all positions within the department as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
